About this self-check

Becoming a parent for the first time comes with a long to-do list, and it is hard to know where to begin. This short quiz covers five areas: birth and hospital, home and gear, feeding and newborn care, recovery and support, and money and work. It shows which feel well covered, and points you to the tools, buying lists and articles that fit the areas where a little time will help most.

Questions about the quiz

Is this a test I can fail?

No. It is a friendly self-check, not a test. There is no pass or fail. It simply shows which areas feel well covered and which could use a little time.

Is this about deciding whether to have a baby?

No. It is made for people who are expecting or planning for a baby's arrival, and it looks at the practical side: birth and hospital, home and gear, feeding and newborn care, support, and money and work.

How are my results worked out?

Each statement is scored from "Not yet" to "Sorted". We add up the scores for each of five areas, then point you to tools, buying lists and articles for the areas where a little more preparation would help most.

Are my answers saved or shared?

Your answers stay in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off. We do not ask for your email address to show your results. We only count anonymous totals, such as how many people finish the quiz.

Is this medical or financial advice?

No. It is a general self-check. Speak to your midwife, GP or health visitor about anything specific to you.
