First Time Family App Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Last updated 26 August 2026
Mirrors the in-app copy in src/utils/legalContent.ts (PRIVACY_POLICY_DOC) — edit both together, or point the app’s copy at this file later if it starts rendering markdown. Intended for hosting on FirstTimeFamily.com so app store listings have a public URL to link to.
The short version
Everything you enter into FTF — your children’s names and dates of birth, feeds, sleep, nappies, growth, medicine, memories, photos, pregnancy and TTC tracking, settings — is stored only on your own device. We don’t run servers that receive, see, or store this information. There’s nothing to leak, because we never have it in the first place.
What we collect
Nothing is sent to us. The app doesn’t include any analytics, advertising or tracking software, and doesn’t share or sell your data to third parties — there is no data pipeline for that to happen through. Any information you enter stays in the app’s local storage on your device unless you explicitly choose to move it (see Backups & exports, below). The two exceptions — connecting an optional cloud backup provider, and verifying an optional subscription — are covered in their own sections below; both involve you directly with Apple, Google, or your chosen cloud provider, never with us.
Backups & exports
If you use Export Everything, the backup file is created on your device and you choose where it goes via your device’s own share/save screen — a folder on your device, or a cloud storage app you already have installed. You can add password encryption to exported backups. We never see, receive or have access to these files at any point; they go directly from your device to the destination you picked.
Connecting a cloud backup account
If you turn on automatic cloud backup, you sign in directly with your chosen provider — currently Google Drive, with Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox planned — using that provider’s own sign-in screen. You’re never asked to create a First Time Family account. We request only the access needed to do the job: for Google Drive, that’s the drive.file scope, which lets the app create and update files it made itself inside a “First Time Family” folder in your Drive — it cannot see or access the rest of your Drive — plus your account email, so you can see which account is connected. The resulting access token is stored securely on your device (using your operating system’s secure credential storage, not a plain file) and is used only to upload and download your own backup files, sent directly between your device and your provider’s servers. First Time Family never receives, sees or stores these files, your account credentials, or your access token at any point. If you also set an optional backup password, that’s stored the same way — on your device only — so the weekly automatic backup can encrypt itself without asking you each time; we never see that password either. Disconnecting a provider in Settings removes the stored access immediately. We don’t use anything accessed this way for advertising, and we don’t use it to train any AI or machine-learning models.
Subscriptions & purchases
If you subscribe to a paid tier (for example, the Partner subscription), the purchase itself is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store — we never see or receive your payment card details. To check whether a subscription is active, the app verifies your entitlement either directly with Apple/Google or through a subscription-management service acting on our behalf; either way, what’s shared is limited to the product you’ve purchased and whether it’s currently active — never your family’s tracking data, memories or photos, which stay local to your device regardless of subscription status. If that changes — for example, once the Partner subscription’s cross-device sync feature is added — this policy will be updated first to explain exactly what starts being shared and why.
Data retention
Data you enter stays on your device for as long as you keep the app installed, or until you delete it yourself. The optional local daily snapshot is a single rolling file that’s overwritten each day, not a growing history. If you turn on automatic cloud backup, the most recent 10 backups are kept in your own cloud folder and older ones are automatically removed so it doesn’t fill up your storage — you can change or turn this off at any time in Settings.
Notifications
Reminders (feed and sleep predictions, medicine doses, backup nudges, and so on) are scheduled locally through your device’s own operating system. No information about them is sent to us or to any third party.
Children’s information
Information about your child is entered and controlled entirely by you, the parent or guardian, and is treated the same as the rest of your data — stored locally, under your control. FTF doesn’t knowingly collect information directly from children; the app is intended to be used by adults on behalf of their family.
Your rights, already built in
Because we don’t hold a copy of your data, the things a privacy request would normally ask for — seeing what’s held about you, taking a copy of it, deleting it — are already directly in your hands at all times. Export Everything gives you a full copy whenever you want one; deleting a child, a journey, or the app itself removes the corresponding data from your device. This app is designed with UK users in mind; because we hold no copy of your data on any server we control, most of what UK GDPR would otherwise require us to act on for you (access, correction, deletion) is already something you can do yourself, instantly, from within the app.
If this ever changes
If FTF later introduces an optional account system or cloud service, this policy will be updated to explain exactly what that feature stores, where, and for how long — and you’ll be asked to review it before that feature is turned on for your account. Nothing about how the current local-first features work will change without you choosing to change it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update the date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes, and note material changes in the app’s update notes.
